A Youngsville woman is in McKean County Jail after she was allegedly found to be in possession of drug-related items while unlawfully driving a rental car.
Nadean L. Jones, 30, was arraigned Tuesday night before District Judge Richard Luther on charges of possessing an instrument of crime, a first-degree misdemeanor; unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a second-degree misdemeanor; four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors; and summary charges of driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked, driving without a license and restrictions on alcohol beverages.
According to the criminal complaint, on Tuesday, Bradford City police found that Jones, who had a suspended/revoked license, was driving a rental car that was registered in someone else’s name. Jones told police that her friend had left the car in Bradford after drinking the night before, and Jones had been driving it for a couple of days.
The rental agreement indicated the car was rented in Jamestown, N.Y., on Friday and had a return date of this past Sunday, the complaint stated.
While Jones was moving around in the car, an officer told her to step away from the car; she began going through her purse, and the officer saw clear plastic containers that appeared to contain a crystal-like substance, as well as a clear plastic bag, court records stated.
According to the complaint, the officer asked about the items in her purse, and she pulled out the bag while allegedly trying to obscure the other container. He told her he saw the containers, then he looked at one, which appeared to contain a crystal-like substance. Jones told him she used the containers for crafts. The officer also saw a half-full container of Bud Light Lime on the floor of the passenger’s side.
The officer also saw a round container in the pocket of the driver’s side door that is typically used to hold drug-related items, the complaint stated. Jones told him she was unsure about all the items in the car, noting that she had tools in the car. Also, she told him that the bag that contained the crystal-like substance had been used to hold chips.
After arranging to have Enterprise pick up the car, the officer spotted marijuana on the floor of the driver’s side; Jones she hadn’t noticed the marijuana — she doesn’t smoke weed — but she told the officer that she did have a set of scales in the car that she used “for her bad habits” because she is “sick of getting ripped off,” the complaint stated. She agreed that her “bad habit” was methamphetamine.
In addition to the items mentioned above, police found the following during a search of the car: two ledgers, a scale with meth residue, unused clear plastic bags, Jones’s personal identification and several of her bank cards, a pouch containing two unused clear plastic bags, a coffin-shaped container with meth, a plastic bag containing used and unused bags, a “VooPoo MoJo” atomizer with meth residue, multiple containers and bags with meth residue, a Samsung cell phone, a crayon box containing plastic bags, 10 straws used to package drugs and a straw package and more unused plastic bags, the complaint alleged.
Jones is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail, and a preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 4.
