Johnsonburg Area School District has not had any confirmed cases of COVID-19, but parents are warned that online learning is a possibility due to current case counts in Elk County.
In a statement shared via social media Wednesday, Superintendent Dennis Crotzer explained that the community spread is now in the moderate range, which will require the district to switch from the current in-person model of student education.
“We have been in the low range of cases; therefore, we have been able to teach classes in person. Now, our community spread is in the moderate range. If we continue on this path, we will have to go to a hybrid model and/or remote model. The school district will have no choice, as per our Health & Safety Plan, but to switch from in-person to hybrid/remote,” Crotzer said.
Crotzer did say that students have been “very responsible in following all preventative measures that the school district put in place.”
With the fact that the community spread can impact the model of education, Crotzer had a request for parents and community members.
“I am asking that you work with us to help contain the cases within the community and school district. Working together will keep our schools open. Our communities have always shown the ability to work together and this needs to be the time to show our unity,” he stated.
The statement concluded with a wish to “stay healthy and safe.”
A statement posted a few hours after the original confirmed that the district is still operating without any confirmed positive cases of COVID-19.
