The popular annual Moon Dance has been canceled, and the Kinzua Valley Trail Club is reaching out to friends and supporters in hopes to offset the loss of funds.
The dance is held annually in Westline as a fundraiser for the Kinzua Valley Trail Club. Don Cummins, president of the trail club, explained the dance provides enough funds for the volunteers to maintain the current trail and to build on to it.
This year, the trail club is offering a raffle in an attempt to raise money.
“Although nothing can replace the awesome atmosphere, comradery and fine entertainment the Moon Dance provides, we would be grateful for your support by purchasing a raffle ticket and allowing us the privilege to continue our work, expanding our trail from Red Bridge to (U.S. Route) 219 and beyond to Kinzua Bridge State Park,” Cummins said.
The raffle will be limited to 200 tickets at a cost of $30 each.
The tickets, Cummins said, will be limited edition too.
“We have them done at Laughing Owl Press,” he explained. Each year, the club gets compliments on the quality and appearance of the tickets. This year, the raffle tickets are meant to be keepers.
Cummins said there will be four drawings for prizes, and tickets will be drawn Dec. 17.
For tickets, call 814-598-0913 or 814-778-5207.
Cummins explained while the club holds the dance to raise funds, the event is also a good time to catch up with old friends, enjoy good food and learn about what the club has done over the past year.
“This event has become a showcase of local talent, volunteerism, outstanding support from individuals and organizations from throughout the area and as far away as Otto’s Brewery in State College, as well as catered dishes from Westline Inn, a roast pig courtesy of Bob Cummins Construction and homemade desserts and pies from club members and volunteers,” he said.
Cummins said the dance will be back on tap at the historic Westline Dance Hall in the last week of September 2021.
