Kane Area High School’s Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) is taking their efforts to spook the community outdoors this year. A Haunted Path will be held on Oct. 31, with different times for different age groups, allowing for maximum fun.

From 1 to 3 p.m., younger children are invited to take part, with treats and a few activities planned. For the older generations, visit the path from 7 to 10 p.m. for a scary experience in the dark of the night.

SADD is in their sixth year of hosting a haunted experience. Advisor Lori Lewis explained the first two years, the event was held outdoors. Following that, the group chose to hold “Haunted Halls of Kane High” transforming the inside of the high school into a haunted house with different stations. Witches, spooks, and horrors were all included.

“This year we are having it outside in the wooded path next to Hemlock Avenue (mainly because of the Covid virus). The Path will begin at the front of the school and end there too,” Lewis said. “This is Kane’s SADD fundraiser. The money we make from the event is used to get top inspirational speakers for the high school.”

Lewis noted there is plenty of parking, ensuring that anyone looking for a fright will be able to find a spot.

Money from the Haunted Path will be used toward the costs associated with hosting speakers, the annual Veterans Day program at the high school and special events, like Red Ribbon Week and a “Pie in the face assembly” in the spring.

Lewis explained students in SADD also give out Smartie candies to students who wear safety belts coming into school and attend conferences whenever possible, including several held in Warren.

The size of the group allows for the successful planning and execution of this event.
