President Rebecca Hilzinger welcomed members to Delta Kappa Gamma’s Oct. 6 meeting.
Delta Kappa Gamma Society promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
New officers installed were President Kathy Long, First Vice President Deborah Wensel, Second Vice President Carol Wurster, Recording Secretary Connie Shanks, Corresponding Secretary Jan Caruso, Treasurer Peggy Houser, Scholarship Fund Treasurer Pat Warfield, Parliamentarian Sandy Caprarotta and Chaplain Connie King.
Member Aimee Emerson spoke about the importance of a strong school library program. A certified school librarian supports state standards, encourages students to have good communication skills, digital literacy and media literacy. She works with students on fact checking skills by using tools on the internet to ascertain if a photo has been altered, if there is bias or if the source is reliable.
Minutes of the last meeting were accepted and the treasurer’s report was placed on file. Members approved the budget for 2020-21.
They will continue to collect objects for children in the YWCA Victim Resource Center. Cash donations for articles for the Victim Resource Center are always accepted. The club will again be joining with Zonta for Zonta’s 16 days of activism.
The next Delta Kappa Gamma meeting will be held via Zoom on Nov. 19.
