ST. MARYS — Sam Kaul racked up 148 rushing yards and two touchdowns on nine carries as Elk County Catholic rolled to a 60-28 win over visiting Port Allegany Thursday night at Dutch Country Stadium.
In addition, Kaul hauled in three receptions for 41 yards and a pair of receiving touchdowns for the Crusaders (2-2). Nick Crisp added 93 rushing yards and two scores on 17 carries, while Raivis Bobby ran for 59 yards and a score on four carries. Bobby also returned a kick 74 yards for a touchdown.
ECC initially jumped out to a 14-0 lead through the first quarter on scoring runs by Kaul (5 yards) and Crisp (1 yard).
Port (0-4) got back into the mix with a 22-yard pass from Drew Evens to Trey Ayers to draw to within 14-8, but Bobby returned the ensuing kickoff for his special teams score.
The Gators, however, continued to fight. Noah Archer hit paydirt from a yard out to bring Port back to within 22-14, and then hauled in a 19-yard scoring pass from Evens as time expired in the first half that brought the Gators back to within 30-20. That score was preceded by a nine-yard pass from McAllister to Kaul.
After halftime, though, the Crusaders took over. ECC rattled off three consecutive scores over the course of the third quarter on a 50-yard run by Crisp, a 95-yard run from Kaul and then a 24-yard pass from McAllister to Kaul.
Then, Bobby scored on a 15-yard run with 10:47 left in the game to cap ECC’s day.
Blaine Moses added a final two-yard score for Port with 4:09 to go.
Evens completed 13 of 22 passes for 185 yards and two scores for Port. He was picked off once.
Moses finished the day with a season-high 153 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, while Archer ran for 48 yards and his score on 14 rushes. Archer also hauled in six receptions for 90 yards and a score, while Ayers had five receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown.
ECC hosts Otto-Eldred next week, while Port Allegany visits Cameron County.
