An Emporium woman is in McKean County Jail after she allegedly broke into another woman’s residence and damaged several items.
Sarah A. Norton, 23, of 118 E. 6th St., Emporium, was arraigned Monday before District Judge William Todd on charges of burglary, a first-degree felony; criminal trespassing and criminal mischief, third-degree felonies; and two counts of summary defiant trespassing.
The criminal complaint stated that a male contacted 911 to report that Norton called him on Facebook and stated “she had hopped on the crazy train” and went to the home of the male’s ex-girlfriend on Broad Street in Port Allegany, where she tipped over a grill and did damage inside the home.
Officers went to the Broad Street home to talk to the ex-girlfriend. She told police that she was returning home when she spotted Norton’s car in front of her home. When she spotted the car, she decided to drop her children off at a nearby friend’s home before going to her own home.
Norton’s car was gone when she returned, but the woman saw the gate was open and the grill had been pushed off the deck, the complaint stated.
Court records outlined the damage that police saw when they walked through the home.
A computer was damaged and pieces of it were scattered around the room, according to court records. Tile around the fireplace was damaged, and a nursing certificate had been taken out of its holder and ripped in half. A dresser mirror was smashed and the wall behind it damaged. A nightstand lamp was smashed. Also, an upright mirror/jewelry box, as well as a drill/driver with attachment were damaged.
The woman told police that she didn’t notice anything missing, the complaint stated.
Norton is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail, and a preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 19.
