The Salvation Army will be providing several opportunities to help families in need prepare for the holiday season and winter weather.

Once again, the organization will be providing meal boxes for both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, complete with all the fixings. Those interested in receiving holiday food boxes can sign-up from 10 a.m. until noon on Oct. 5th, 6th and 8th, and from 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 7th. Applicants are asked to bring proof of income and photo ID.

Additionally, the Salvation Army will once again be partnering with Sheetz to provide Christmas toys for children in eligible families. New applicants will be considered first, as there are limited spots in this program. Sign-ups are from 10 a.m. until noon on Oct. 5th, 6th and 8th, and from 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 7th. Applicants are asked to bring a photo ID along with Social Security Cards for the children.

“It’s really a great program,” said Captain David Means Jr. “Our main goal is to provide needy kids in the community with Christmas presents.”

In the past, presents were handed out during a Christmas party, though this year, the presents will be distributed via drive-by delivery due to the pandemic.

Lastly, in partnership with Walmart, project bundle-up sign-ups will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Oct. 13th, for children and seniors in need of winter outerwear, such as coats, hats, boots, gloves and mittens.

Means explained that individuals are only eligible for project bundle-up every other year, in order to give more families a chance to receive aid.
