A 25-year-old Bradford woman is in McKean County Jail after allegedly leading police on a high speed chase through residential neighborhoods in the City of Bradford on Wednesday.
Rachel Anderson, 49 Gates Hollow Road, is charged with fleeing from police and flight to avoid apprehension, third-degree felonies; possessing an instrument of crime, a first-degree misdemeanor; 10 counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, all second-degree misdemeanors; two counts of drug possession and one of possession of paraphernalia, all misdemeanors; DUI and several traffic summary offenses.
According to the criminal complaint, at 2:53 p.m. Wednesday, Bradford City police were notified that an off-duty officer had seen a car driven by Anderson on East Main Street. She was wanted on a state parole warrant for absconding.
An officer stopped the car at the intersection of Burnside and Welch avenues. When the officer was walking up to the driver’s door, Anderson sped off “at a high rate of speed,” the criminal complaint alleged.
The car traveled Welch Avenue, Cornen Street and Longfellow Avenue, failing to stop at any of the stop signs, and then entered South Kendall Avenue, where the car nearly struck an oncoming vehicle. The car continued east on South Kendall at speeds of 75 to 85 mph, repeatedly crossing the centerline. The car continued about a mile before turning onto Lafferty Hollow, where it traveled at speeds of 65 mph before striking a patch of loose gravel and spinning out, ending up in the ditch, the complaint stated.
Anderson got out of the car and fell to the ground. When police told her to get up, she stated, “kill me, shoot me, I’m a drug addict,” the complaint stated.
Another officer arrived on the scene, and Anderson and her passenger, Tyler Johnson, were taken into custody. Anderson told police she had drugs in her possession. Police recovered methamphetamine, oxycodone, several baggies and three scales, the complaint stated.
Police said charges are pending against Johnson.
Anderson was arraigned before District Judge Rich Luther and remanded to jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing has been set for Oct. 7.
The complaint noted that state parole had placed a detainer on Anderson as well, so if she were to be released from jail, she would be remanded to the custody of state parole.
