Slowly, but steadily a revamped downtown is emerging in Bradford City.
Work is slated to start next week for Main Street Phase II improvements between Festival Way and Davis Street. Also, crews are scheduled to wrap up streetscape improvements on Pine and Congress streets by the end of the month.
On Pine Street, work to be finished includes new sidewalks, curbs, stamped asphalt crosswalks, new ornamental lighting and removal of the bricks and paving the street, according to Sara Andrews, executive director of the local Office of Economic and Community Development.
“The brick is gone for good and will be replaced with a new asphalt paving surface,” she said of the former brick surface of Pine Street.
Paving of Pine Street is scheduled for the week of Sept. 21.
“The road is accessible for traffic, but it is recommended to avoid traveling on the street as it has a very rough surface due to the removal of the brick,” Andrews noted.
She explained that Congress Street and Pine Street were paired together in the same project.
Andrews described the work being done on Congress Street.
“New sidewalks and curbing have been installed,” she said. “The street lights will be refurbished with new luminaries, decorative arms and bases installed as per Main Street. Congress Street will also be milled and paved with new stamped asphalt crosswalks installed. We will be adding decorative fencing on Congress Street.”
Andrews said work on Pine and Congress streets likely will be done by the end of September.
Phase II of the Main Street streetscape project is slated to begin next week.
Phase I work, which took place between Mechanic Street and Festival Way, began in 2019 and continued through this summer. Phase II will include Main Street from Festival Way to Davis Street.
“This work includes new sidewalks, curbing, tree removal, installation of new trees, refurbishing of the existing light poles and installation of decorative fencing,” Andrews explained.
She said Main Street work will continue as long as weather permits, and project organizers are hopeful the section between Festival Way and Davis Street will be done this year.
“Uncompleted work will begin in the spring and be completed during the summer of 2021,” Andrews said.
