A Bradford man has been arrested for allegations that he stole thousands of dollars worth of items and money from a woman he knew.
Joshua C. Bailey, 29, was arraigned Friday before District Judge Richard Luther on two counts of theft by unlawful taking and one count of access device fraud, all third-degree felonies.
According to the criminal complaint, Bailey stayed at the woman’s home for about a month, then moved into an apartment in the Bradford area.
Starting in April, the woman started to notice things that would go missing. This included items such as two rings — a gold Bradford Central Christian High School ring and a gold ring with black onyx and a diamond; a lock box with important papers such as the title to her vehicle and her will, along with her mother’s retirement Rolex, which was gold and had a diamond and her initials engraved on it; and a bag of loose coins, the complaint stated.
The woman found no sign of forced entry, and nothing seemed to be out of place, which made her believe the person who took the item had known where they were, court records indicated.
On July 27, the woman called Foster Township police because the bank contacted her after Bailey allegedly tried to withdraw funds from her checking and savings accounts through PayPal. In four transactions, a total of $2,200 was moved from her accounts to Bailey, according to the complaint.
Bailey is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 23.
