A Bradford man was found guilty by a jury Tuesday in McKean County Court to a charge stemming from allegations the man ran from Bradford City Police in 2019.
Timothy Michael Schuster II was convicted of flight to avoid apprehension, District Attorney Stephanie Vetteburg-Shaffer reported.
According to Shaffer, “On August 6, 2019, officers with the City of Bradford Police were alerted that Schuster, who was known to have an active warrant, was seen in the area of Jefferson Street within the City.”
She explained that Officer Richard Obermeyer and former Chief Chris Lucco went to the area and saw Schuster, who covered his face with his shirt to try to hide his identity.
“As former Chief Lucco exited the police cruiser to engage Schuster, Schuster proceeded to run between houses and over a fence, and hid in a heavily wooded area,” Shaffer said. “Obermeyer and Lucco secured the area while awaiting for other officers to respond. With the assistance of additional units, Schuster was taken into custody.”
Obermeyer investigated the case, and Shaffer prosecuted the case.
Schuster will be sentenced Sept. 24.
Court records indicate that Schuster has a second case pending, also for allegedly fleeing from police. This alleged incident occurred in June 2020.
According to the criminal complaint filed in the 2020 incident, on June 19, Schuster, who was driving a motorcycle, failed to yield to a Bradford City police patrol vehicle that had its lights and siren on due to responding to a call. Schuster allegedly did a wheelie in front of the officer and took off at a high rate of speed.
The motorcycle had been reported as stolen to the Bradford Township Police Department, too, the complaint stated.
Schuster has not been convicted of any of the charges in the motorcycle case, which include fleeing an officer, receiving stolen property and summary charges. A last-day-to-plea conference is set for Oct. 1.
