AUSTIN — Visitors are invited to enjoy time outdoors with park staff and other outdoor enthusiasts this weekend at Sinnemahoning State Park.
Programs include kayak games, fishing tips and reading game signs.
Kayak Games will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Participants will learn basic water safety and paddling techniques while enjoying games and activities to improve kayak skills. People can bring their own kayak and gear or borrow the park’s. The event is for ages 9 to adult, experienced kayakers only. Pre-registration is required. When registering, participants should indicate if they want to borrow a kayak for the program. Dress for the water (no jeans) and bring a face mask.
Reeling in the Weekend Fishing Program will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Spend an evening at the George B. Stevenson reservoir learning about the species of fish that call the reservoir home, getting tips on how to fish for them. Participants will then practice using the knowledge they gained by going fishing. Fishing rods, reels, and tackle are available for use, or people can bring their own. All ages are welcome. Face masks are required. Attendance is limited to 15 people. Pre-registration is required. Meet at the Eagle Watch at the Lake Day Use Area.
Nature Walk: Reading & Interpreting Game Sign will happen from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Sunday. Participants will discover a new way of looking at the forest by learning to identify the different types of sign left by game species in the forest, how to interpret the sign, and receive tips on using game sign to locate game and other wildlife. All ages are welcome, but the program is most suited for ages 10 to adult. The walk will cover 1-1 ½ miles over uneven terrain. Face masks are required. Attendance is limited to 24 people. Meet in front of the Wildlife Center.
To mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19, until further notice, all programs at Sinnemahoning State Park will be held outdoors, will be limited to 25 people or less, will follow social-distancing guidelines, and will require use of face masks. All participants must wear face coverings while attending park programs.

Anyone who needs an accommodation to participate in PA State Park activities due to a disability should contact the park they plan to visit. With at least seven days’ notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs.
