Smethport businessman Jack Rosenswie won the prestigious 2020 New York State Lake Ontario Championship Summer Derby – Lake Trout Division on July 22.
Using a ProTroll Flasher, Rosenswie caught the winner, a 24.9-pound trout, at 1:20 p. m. and this weight had to stand for five days until the conclusion of the month-long tournament.
“Believe me, it was a stroke of Lady Luck,” Rosenswie said, “But we were actually targeting the LOC BIg Fish to win. We caught and released 22 other Lake Trout. After the big hit, we headed to the weight station at Woody’s Tackle inj Pulaski to register the fish.”
During the tournament that drew anglers from New York, Maryland, Florida and Pennsylvania, Rosenswie was fishing with Praying Mantis Sportfishing of Mexico, NY,( Rich Nau, captain, and Rich DuBois, mate). “The win goes to them and the Praying Mantis Sportfishing Team …any win in the LOC is a big deal for the captain and the team,” Rosenswie told The Era.
The winning fish is being mounted and will be exhibited at DL’s Restaurant in Pulaski, NY.
Rosenswie and his wife, Marilyn, traveled to Sodus Point, NY, for the awards presentation on Aug. 2.
