When area residents purchase tickets for the United Way of the Bradford Area drive-through pig roast, they will not only support a very good cause but they will also get a delicious meal out of the deal.
Pre-sale tickets for the 22nd annual pig roast, slated to take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 3 at Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems at 800 E. Main St., are currently on sale for $15 each.
Orders can be placed at the United Way office at 161 Main Street from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Eric and Suzi Marasco, chairs of the annual campaign, said the meal will be prepared by Westline Inn and will include a barbecue pulled pork sandwich, cole slaw, baked beans, pasta salad, and dessert. Raffle tickets and a 50/50 drawing will also be done the day of the event. The food is all homemade and will compliment scrumptious pork that is slow cooked.
The Marascos stressed the pig roast, which is open to everyone in the community, is the kick-off event for the organization’s annual campaign which carries the theme, “Believe in Tomorrow.”
They noted this year also represents the 95th anniversary that the agency has been in the community.
Eric Marasco said they are hopeful of a strong kick-off with the pig roast as the agency needs the support of the community to help local charities and nonprofits impacted by the pandemic.
“We want everyone in the community to feel welcome to come out and join the event this year,” Eric Marasco stated.
Suzi Marasco added, “We’re excited to offer more dinners to the community, and with the drive-through we’re able to reach more people.
“Even if we do go back to an in-person, traditional pig roast (in the future), hopefully we will be able to incorporate a pick-up option if people who aren’t able to stay,” she added. “This year is teaching us a lot about flexibility and adaptability with our fundraising strategies.”
