McKean County Treasurer Melissa Jo Smith has identified a fraudulent website claiming to sell dog licenses to local residents.
“A member of the public alerted our office when she did not receive a lifetime dog license she had paid for online,” stated Smith. “A thorough search of our records indicated the payment was not made to the county.”
The fake site shows a map of Pennsylvanian outlining each county. The web address contains Pennsylvania Animal Information. Smith verified the fraudulent site with other treasurers throughout the commonwealth.
Dog licenses are only available through the McKean County Treasurer’s Office. The cost of a license ranges from $4.50 to 8.50 annually and lifetime licenses ranges from $21.50 to $51.50. Payments can be cash, check, or credit card in the Treasurer’s Office or made online at the McKean County website for the annual license only. The McKean County Treasurer’s office is on the county website at www.mckeancountypa.org.
