Locals will be able to celebrate their agricultural roots at the Cameron County Fair Aug. 2 to 8.
At a time when many summer events have been canceled, organizers wanted to give residents something exciting to enjoy.
“We are moving ahead to offer our community a fun event,” a fair representative said. “This year’s fair is dedicated to the citizens of Cameron County, without their support we could not run this event.”
The Cameron County Fair is the smallest in the state and one of only 12 fairs that are happening this year, the organizer noted.
They are taking special care to keep attendees as safe as possible during the fair.
“We are following any mandates, masks must be worn inside the building and we are encouraging social distancing,” the representative explained.
A week of activities are set, according to the schedule of events.
“One of our favorite activities is Cow Patty Bingo and is a good fundraising opportunity for us. We also have a lot of field games and contests that the kids love,” the representative said, noting that Karaoke with the Queen on Friday night is probably the most popular event.
The fairgrounds will start to come alive on Saturday, when competitive exhibits are accepted at Beaver Hall from noon to 7 p.m.
On Sunday, the public will be invited for vespers services at 7 p.m. The event will include music and inspiration with Bob Spaeth and friends. Competitive exhibit judging will be held this day, too, but the exhibit hall won’t open to the public until 6 p.m. Sunday.
Monday will be Emergency Volunteer Appreciation Day. Activities slated for the day will include a tractor parade through downtown Emporium to the fairgrounds, the opening dedication — this year for the citizens of Cameron County and entertainment by the Rock-N-Roll Pet Store, as well as Mike Echo.
Tuesday — Small Business Appreciation Night — will include entertainment by Bwana Jim, Magic Mike DJ Services and Cameron County’s Got Talent.
Wednesday will offer the fourth annual Jan Hampton Conservation Event. Cameron County Outdoor Youth Activities (CCOYA) and the Turkey Federation will offer conservation education, and entertainment will be provided by Howard Mincone and Legacy.
Thursday, Aug. 6, will be Military Appreciation Night, which will include activities to honor veterans and active military personnel. Visitors can enjoy a cornhole tournament, the 12th annual Chili Cook Off, the Redneck Games, the Nail Driving Contest, a Pizza Eating Contest and a movie night. Howard Mincone will provide entertainment.
Family Night will be Friday, Aug. 7. Activities will include the announcement of the Beautiful Baby Contest winner and Basket Bonanza winners, along with the coronation ceremonies and Karaoke with the Royalty. Providing entertainment will be Biggie Entertainment and Howard Mincone.
