Bradford Little Theatre will present its annual Spotlight Award to Brad Preston at the Summer Block Party on Saturday in front of Togi’s Playhouse, 18 Welch Ave.
The Spotlight Award is given to those who aren’t typically featured on stage, doing work behind the scenes. It has been given once a season since its inception in season 20 when it was presented to Christopher Lathrop. Other winners include Amy Thomas, season 21, and Olivia Fitzgerald, season 22.
Preston has been involved in theatre since his high school days at Whetstone High School in Columbus, Ohio where he was in a production of “Arsenic and Old Lace.” After high school he attended Circleville Bible College where he participated in a traveling drama group. Within the group, Preston tried his hand at both writing and acting while traveling from New York state all the way to Arizona.
He began with Bradford Little Theatre during season 21’s “Harvey” and has been involved with the group since then. One of Preston’s favorite productions was “Red Plaid Shirt,” where he also helped to create props and sets.
“I enjoy creating an alternate reality either through acting or stage crafting,” Preston said. “Bradford Little Theatre is a great opportunity to exercise imagination on so many levels.”
Other productions where audiences may have seen Preston’s handiwork on stage include “A Christmas Carol” and “Nuts.” He also helped construct many of the set and prop pieces under Nanci Garris for season 23’s production of “The 39 Steps,” which had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent quarantine.
BLT president Kristin Asinger will present Preston with the award during the upcoming Summer Block Party Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.
There is no admission fee, but the group is accepting donations during the event.
