The Community Blood Bank is urging residents to donate blood at one of the upcoming blood drives in the area to help restore the blood supply to adequate levels. The CBB is facing a critical blood shortage due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
To help, the public is invited to a blood drive that will be held Monday in Bradford. The drive will be held from noon to 5:30 p.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 95 E. Corydon St.
Call the CBB at 814-456-4206 to schedule an appointment to donate.
The CBB faces a 20% drop in blood donations during the summer months. However, as the pandemic continues, around 35% of the CBB’s mobile blood drives continue to cancel due to the business or organization not operating on site or have limited operations. Further, the capacity to draw donors is reduced as appointments and equipment are reduced to adhere to social distancing requirements. Appointments are still available, and it is imperative the organization fills each appointment slot to help return the blood inventory to adequate levels.
“The time to donate blood is now,” said Jaclyn Seymour, community relations specialist for the Community Blood Bank. “Blood donors are needed now more than ever to help a patient in need of that life-saving unit of blood. This is a matter of public safety. There is no substitute for blood.”
All donors during the month of July will be automatically entered to win an outdoor package, including a Yeti cooler, Yeti tumblers and a gas grill.
