A Johnsonburg woman is accused of possessing a pistol and drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop in June.
Taylor R. Hadlock, 26, of 512 Glen Hazel Road, Johnsonburg, was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge David Engman on charges of firearms not to be carried without a license, a third-degree felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaint, at 1:47 a.m. June 25, a state trooper from the Lewis Run barracks was traveling south on North Fraley Street in Kane, when he saw that one of the brake lights of the sport utility vehicle in front of him was not working.
The trooper pulled over the SUV, which was occupied by three people including Hadlock as the back seat passenger. The officer could smell marijuana; however, the motorist, who had glassy, bloodshot eyes, said he didn’t have any, the complaint stated.
The officer had the driver step out of the SUV so he could talk to the passengers.
Hadlock told the trooper that she had a bowl but no marijuana, and she handed him a glass smoking pipe. The trooper searched the SUV and found a Phoenix Arms semi-automatic .22-caliber pistol in Hadlock’s bag, according to court records.
When the trooper asked Hadlock why she didn’t mention the pistol, she said, “S- — -, I forgot,” the complaint stated.
Hadlock is free on $15,000 unsecured bail, and a preliminary hearing is set for Monday.
There was no indication at press time Wednesday that either of the SUV’s other occupants were criminally charged in the traffic stop.
