The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has postponed its fall sports season, according to a statement from school president Dr. Catherine Koverola.

Pitt-Bradford’s men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s golf and women’s tennis teams are the sports impacted by the decision.

“I know this is disappointing news for many of you, but as you know, we are focused on maximizing our educational mission while ensuring the Pitt-Bradford community and our neighbors in the surrounding communities are as safe and healthy as possible,” Koverola said. “We simply do not have the resources necessary to create and maintain an environment for intercollegiate Division III athletic competition that meets our safety requirements.”

Koverola added, “We hope conditions will improve in the spring to enable us to play both our fall and winter sports.”

The university notified its conference, the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, of the decision ahead of time, according to AMCC Commissioner Donna Ledwin. The AMCC will issue a statement by the end of the week.

Fellow AMCC member Hilbert College announced last Friday that it was moving it’s men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball seasons to the Spring 2021 semester.

A request for comment made to UPB athletic director Bret Butler was not immediately returned.
