The YWCA Bradford’s Swig & Swine is being held today — with a slightly different appearance than in previous years.
“In the last few months many cancelled events, from conferences to concerts, have been replaced by virtual ones. And in the process, many are realizing that moving events online actually brings some benefits of its own,” said Angela Erway, development & marketing director for the YWCA. “For starters, our reach can be much greater. Our organization serves individuals throughout McKean County, but it is difficult to find a centralized location and concept for an event that would draw people from the entire county.
“The fact there’s virtually no barrier to attendance, other than internet access, means the invitation list is endless. Those who could not otherwise be away from their family, afford to travel, or have health and mobility concerns, can now attend. We are hoping people from all over our service area and beyond will join us for some live entertainment and to learn more about the YWCA.”
The event itself will take place between 4 and 6 p.m. on the Swig & Swine event page, which can be found on the YWCA Bradford Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/YWCABradford/.
“We want people to be able to join us safely from wherever they are enjoying their Saturday, so all they need to do is login to Facebook and join the Facebook Live event. It’s simple, but if people aren’t sure how it works, follow us on Facebook and you will find links to attend our virtual event,” Erway said.
The event will incorporate both musical entertainment and educational segments, mixed with trivia and giveaways.
“Lisa, Jim and John from Second Act will be providing musical entertainment during the majority of the event, with periodic breaks for information related to the YWCA. There will be random trivia questions and items added to our scavenger hunt list during the stoppage of music. We have some great prizes to give away, including YETI drinkware, Zippos, gift certificates and a BOSE bluetooth speaker to the overall winner of the scavenger hunt,” Erway said.
The YWCA Board members and volunteers will be set up in the front parking lot of the Bradford Club from 2 to 4 p.m. to hand out the piggy party packs, which were available for purchase prior to the event. The party packs included various pig-themed accessories for the party, as an optional add-on purchase.
People can remain in their vehicles as volunteers fetch their party supplies for them. There will also be a drive-thru cornhole toss for those purchasing piggy party packs. Swiggy (the pig) will be on hand for some added fun. As long as the weather cooperates, Swiggy plans to play all afternoon, but he may cut out early if the day’s temperatures rise.
