OLEAN, N.Y. — Neighborhood School of Dance (NSD) is packing its bags and getting passports ready for the recently announced summer camp — Dance Around The World Camp with Ms. Kaura.
Camp will be held Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-noon each day the week of Aug. 3 at the Olean Studio, 609 S. Union St.
What’s on the agenda? Campers will have social time, do some good for the community, work on crafts, play games and learn a dance each day. Each day is themed after a different country to get a whole cultural experience as well. Friday will be a mini “performance” showing the parents what the campers learned all week.
Brittany Thierman, owner and director of NSD says about the camp, “We are so excited to be able to offer this camp especially with everything going on. We started running our outdoor dance classes again and parents have been so appreciative to be able to send their kids to a positive, active, social environment, while also practicing social distancing and maintaining a safe learning experience. I’m so excited for the dancers, and for Ms. Kaura to use her extraordinary skills.”
Kaura Chahal has been dancing at NSD since she was little, and has been a teacher assistant for the past eight years. She typically attends summer camp — and this year she would have been on staff — but it was cancelled due to COVID-19. Instead, she will be running this camp and using all of her training with the goal of giving campers a fun, exciting time.
Camp is for ages 8-12. There is a limit of only 10 campers per session. Cost of camp includes all activities and supplies: $65 for current NSD members or $70 for non-NSD members. To register, visit https://bit.ly/NSDSummer20
The school’s goal for all the campers is to keep them safe but ensure a fun active time. During this camp, campers will arrive to camp with a mask on, and staff will check temperatures and pass out hand sanitizer. They will keep the campers six to eight feet apart during activities, and weather permitting this will be held all outdoors in the parking lot.
