Matthew Confer is facing the prospect of new criminal charges after he allegedly assaulted a correctional officer Wednesday afternoon at McKean County Jail.
Confer, 25, will be charged with aggravated assault, assault by prisoner, simple assault and harassment, Lewis Run-based state police reported.
According to police, they were dispatched at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday to the jail for a report of an assault.
Through investigation, police determined that Confer was placed in a restraint chair for his behavior in the jail. Confer was “dry stunned” after he “became aggressive” and failed to follow the commands of a correctional officer, police reported.
According to police, Confer then kicked a 40-year-old male correctional officer multiple times in the genitalia.
It does not appear that Confer has been arraigned on the new charges yet.
He has been incarcerated in McKean County Jail on $10,000 bail for a case alleging he tried to break into a car in a store parking lot using a knife.
Confer was arrested in May for allegations from a reported domestic incident by city officers Chief Butch Bartlett and Officer Matthew Gustin. Confer was also accused of running away from the officers, then assaulting them when they tried to take him into custody.
However, several people complained to the city after seeing a video of the arrest that a bystander posted to social media. Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the city investigates alleged misconduct during the arrest.
City officials have said the investigation remains ongoing.
All felony and misdemeanor charges against Confer in the assault case have since been dropped. The only charge left standing had been a harassment charge, which was reduced to a non-traffic citation before being withdrawn completely.
