WELLSBORO RACCOON HUNT: Not the real furry critters, but the characters from author Kevin Coolidge’s book, which he signed during an event at On the Side Books in Bradford.
Beginning July 1, the “Where Are the Totally Ninja Raccoons” event will include 21 businesses in the Wellsboro area.
Coolidge is holding the event to give area residents something to do, since the coronavirus outbreak put a stop to the Where’s Waldo search, held for seven years in a row by From My Shelf Books & Gifts at 7 East Ave.
The eight books in the “Totally Ninja Raccoon” series are about three raccoon brothers who become ninjas. The hunt for the brothers begins at 9 a.m. July 1 and ends at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 30. This event gives both locals and tourists of all ages an opportunity to play.
Each participating business will have free passports, listing all of the businesses where searchers can find the Ninja Raccoons. When a customer spots the raccoons, the business will stamp or sign the individual’s passport.
Ninja Raccoon seekers should make sure their names and contact information are included on their passports before submitting them. All passports must be turned in at From My Shelf Books & Gifts no later than 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 30.
It is not necessary to visit all 21 businesses and find the raccoons. Any discovery of the brothers will lead to an entry in the drawing. On Saturday, Aug. 1, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., names will be drawn for prizes. Winners need not be present to win.
Some of the Wellsboro area businesses that are participating and will have passports with a complete list of those involved include: Café 1905 and a second location on the first floor at Dunham’s Department Store at 45 Main Street; Wild Asaph Outfitters at 71 Main Street; C.S. Sports at 81 Main Street and Peggy’s Candies & Gifts at 82 Main Street.
