A Smethport man accused of stealing items including firearms from a home was sentenced Thursday in McKean County Court to a state prison term.
Kyle R. South, 29, will serve two to four years in state prison for charges of burglary and theft by unlawful taking. He will also pay $4,732.47 in restitution.
South pleaded guilty May 28 to allegations that on Jan. 10, 2019, he entered a Foster Township home while no one was there. He took a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle, a .38 revolver, and various jewelry and Case knives. The items were valued at $6,896.62.
South’s attorney, Public Defender Philip Clabaugh, said South is serving an approximately three-year sentence for possessing one of the firearms in New York State. Clabaugh asked if South could serve the McKean County sentence concurrent to — or at the same time as — the New York sentence, as South would not be facing a five-year aggregate had the firearm possession charge been in Pennsylvania rather than New York.
President Judge John Pavlock made the Pennsylvania sentence consecutive to the New York one, as “The facts are what they are.” He explained, “There’s no two-for-one.”
Also in court, Jessica L. McAdoo, 26, pleaded guilty to a charge of terroristic threats and two counts of simple assault. According to Assistant District Attorney Ashley Shade, on March 22, McAdoo threatened to slash the throats of nursing staff at Bradford Regional Medical Center, and she assaulted two nurses, grabbing one by the throat and striking another in the face. McAdoo will serve 90 days to 23 ½ months in McKean County Jail. She has credit for 96 days of time served.
Heather N. Carter, 22, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to a charge of receiving stolen property. Assistant District Attorney Bridget Murphy said that on April 25, 2019, Carter received a stolen binder containing 4,747 Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards valued at $350. She will be sentenced July 30.
Joshua T. Torrey, 32, of New Richmond, Wis., will serve 10 days to two years in jail for a charge of DUI-general impairment and a summary charge.
