DUKE CENTER — At this month’s meeting, held via Zoom due to the Covid restrictions, Otto Township supervisor Chris Claycomb tendered his resignation, effective June 30.
He has served as supervisor since 2012 and has served as chairman and police commissioner for the past six years. When contacted, Claycomb issued the following statement: “My goals have been to improve our community and improve efficiency in the township. I believe I have accomplished that, but I also know there is more work to be done. We have made great strides in our police department and I am proud to be a part of Otto Township.”
He expressed his gratitude to all who have been part of his journey.
Township secretary Cynthia Gardner requested any resident wishing to fill the vacancy of the term (1-1/2 years) to stop at the township office during business hours or call her at 966-3553 before June 9th.
Due to Covid-19, the scheduled Memorial Day parade will not be held this year. It is requested that individuals and families honor those that sacrificed their lives for our country in a special, personal way this holiday.
Another victim of the coronavirus is the Otto Township Recreation Park. The pavilions will not be rented out in the foreseeable future and restrictions on park usage will be prominently posted at the entrance. All residents are asked to comply with government regulations and suggestions, and to do their part keeping everyone safe and getting things back to normal.
The supervisors passed a tax relief plan, because of the pandemic, allowing township residents until Aug. 31st to pay their taxes at face value. A disaster relief plan was also passed, qualifying the township for federal and state help should a disaster occur.
Spring Clean-up Day this year will be June 8th. Participation forms are available at the township office, Jim Coast Sales and Service, and are on a printable format on the township’s Facebook page. The fee – per family – is $30.00; all participating residents are urged to follow the guidelines and have the material conveniently placed for curbside pickup.
In other township news, with the green light from Gov. Tom Wolf, Otto will be having its annual Garage Sale Day this year. The date is June 6th and shoppers are encouraged to maintain social distances and respect both vendors and other shoppers.
Joining other area communities, Rixford and Duke Center now have approximately 40 banners honoring the township’s veterans proudly displayed on utility poles in each village, with another 40 recently requested. Cousin’s Design of Eldred has produced them and will soon proceed with the recent requests.
