OUTDOOR ETIQUETTE: Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society released an Outdoor Etiquette Guide in these times of COVID-19 concerns. As our area has reached yellow status, some outdoor areas may once again become available for residents to enjoy.
For yourself and others:
Check first: Currently, there are changes to the rules and what is permitted on a regular basis, as officials protect the population from the spread of infection at a fast rate. Therefore, it is necessary to check to make sure your destination is open for a visit on the day you plan to go. Likewise, park facilities are closed. Use the bathroom at home and make sure to pack anything you might need, including beverages.
Be considerate: Those who are able should wear a mask to protect others. Also, it is important to maintain a distance of six feet between yourself and any other people you encounter.
Avoid risky activities: Be responsible with decisions and minimize risky actions. Any potential accidents now put first responders at risk and may require a longer time frame for reaction.
Notice nature: Enjoy your time, and make sure to put away the electronics. Spring is emerging and wildlife is active. Watch closely and see what you can observe.
For your place:
Avoid playgrounds: Concerns about the sterile status of objects and playground equipment mean that, for now, the best route is to avoid visiting playgrounds altogether.
Avoid overcrowding: Visitors who find a full parking lot are advised to choose a secondary destination. Too many people in one location means a higher risk of spreading infection. Also, those who find a spot rather than using a clearly marked one damage the landscape.
Leave no trace: Carry out what you take in. This includes dog waste.
No fires, no smoking: Avoid any type of fire, as this can lead to wildfires. Spring in Pa. means a high risk for fires.
