Bradford City Council made a few steps forward on upcoming projects at Tuesday’s virtual meeting.
City Administrator Chris Lucco opened bids for a roof replacement project and general construction at the Chestnut Street fire station, and council later awarded a bid for a streetscape improvement project on Congress and Pine streets.
Of the fire station project, Lucco explained, “This project was two pieces, kind of together, but could be bid separately.”
Five roof bids ranged from $47,100 to $76,775, while two general construction bids were $18,300 and $19,545.21. “We will review these after the meeting and award these at the next meeting,” Lucco said.
Council unanimously awarded M&B Services the contract for the streetscape project for $471,000. The project will be funded through the city’s Community Development Block Grant program, Keystone Communities Program and the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.
Councilman Brad Mangel made a brief announcement during the meeting regarding yard waste.
“I noticed around the city, some of our citizens have forgotten that we do not do yard waste pickup,” Mangel said. “Any yard waste needs to be taken down to the (Department of Public Works) building” on Holley Avenue to be disposed of.
Chip Comilla, head of the DPW, said the area where yard waste is disposed of is open seven days a week.
Mayor James McDonald read a proclamation marking May as motorcycle safety and awareness month.
In other business, council approved the filing of a grant application seeking $250,000 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority that would be used for the Callahan Park playground improvement project’s first phase.
Council passed on second reading ordinances regarding traffic and parking regulations and a downtown small business micro grant program.
The McKean County 2019 hazard mitigation plan was approved as the hazard mitigation plan for the city.
Council members also approved an amendment to the citizen participation plan for the CDBG and HOME programs, both of which were amended by the federal government in accordance with coronavirus changes. The changes allow for virtual meetings and reduce the length of time for public comment.
The next regularly scheduled council meeting, which is planned to be broadcast online, is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 26.
