McKean County will be looking for a new economic development director after the recent resignation of Sherri Geary.
The director of the county agency since October of 2013, Geary is taking a position with the Erie County Redevelopment Authority as the vice president of project development, she told The Era.
“I have enjoyed my work for the past six years with the county commissioners, our municipalities and the McKean County Economic Development teams in Kane and Bradford,” she said.
“Through my partnerships and collaborations with local business and industry leaders, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and our regional partners such as North Central Regional Planning and Workforce Solutions, we have been able to bring sizable investments to the county for specific expansion and infrastructure projects totaling over 15 million dollars in grants,” Geary continued.
“In my new role as vice president of project development for Erie County Redevelopment Authority, I will have the opportunity to collaborate with a great team of people engaged in the active revitalization of Erie County,” she said.
McKean County Commissioner Tom Kreiner said the commissioners received Geary’s notice on Tuesday. He said they met with the county’s Human Resources Director Michele Jubon to review the position and job description. They will assess the needs of the county in the coming weeks in order to review how to best leverage staffing to continue to build economic development opportunities.
Geary has had notable success throughout her career, including applying for and obtaining an $11.9 million federal rail grant. She said the grant will have a positive impact on the region. She indicated the grant represented a transformational economic development opportunity for McKean, Venango and Crawford counties, and would reduce truck traffic on the region’s roadways.
