WELLSBORO — Immediately following a conference call Thursday, the Wellsboro Foundation Inc. Board of Directors and Foundation Executive Director Julie VanNess announced that all 2020 Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival activities have been canceled.
The Foundation is the festival’s governing body.
“After discussing the situation caused by the coronavirus, we feel that it is safer for all those involved and their communities, including Wellsboro, if we cancel the festival for this year,” VanNess said.
“In the coming days, we will be contacting all of the Laurel Queen candidates and their schools, artists and craftsmen, food vendors, entertainers, 10K participants and others to notify them of this decision,” said VanNess.
She noted that the 2020 Family Day and Children’s Health Fair, Pet Parade and the Wellsboro Chamber Member Mixer and Brochure Swap are also canceled. Originally, those three events had been postponed.
