CROSBY — McKan Trucking held a fundraiser for Norwich Township Volunteer Fire Department’s truck fund.
Early in March while the fire department was in the midst of conducting their annual Lenten Fish Fry fundraiser, business owners Zach and Kate Nelson challenged the department to maintain an average of at least 250 dinners each week to receive a donation from the couple’s business. The Friday night Fish Crew gladly accepted the challenge and set about upping their weekly average which was 209 in 2019.
When dine-in was banned due to COVID-19, the department shifted gears and offered take-out, curbside and delivery service for the weekly dinners. In the end, the department averaged 269 meals a week for the seven weeks of Lent. Hearing this, the Nelsons more than doubled the amount of their originally proposed donation of $1,000. This week, Norwich Volunteer Fire Department received a check for $2,500 from the couple.
