The Barcroft Pool and Callahan Splash Park will not be opening this summer.
Bradford City Council made the announcement on Thursday, citing the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With the future of restrictions and required social distancing we had to make the very difficult decision of whether to open the pool this year,” a release from council noted. “Like multiple other public pools in the state, we made what we felt was the best decision for the health and safety of our community.
“Although the pool is visited by nearly 5,000 people per season and is something that many of our residents enjoy, with the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, we have determined that we will not be opening this year,” the release noted.
While the Pennsylvania Department of Health has indicated the virus is not transmitted via water, restrictions will be in place regarding the number of people permitted to gather in one location.
“Although the pool will not be opening, city parks are tentatively scheduled to be reopened on May 8, for other recreational purposes,” the release noted. “However, they will be monitored to assure the state guidelines regarding number or persons gathering and social distancing practices are being adhered to.”
The release noted that no decision has been made as of yet as to whether facility rentals will resume for the summer season.
