Two men from New York state were jailed Wednesday on drug charges after a traffic stop on U.S. Route 219.
Anthony P. Paul, 45, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Christopher M. Freeney, 49, of Jamestown, N.Y., were each arraigned Wednesday night before District Judge Dominic Cercone and committed to McKean County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail each.
According to Bradford City police, officers from the department stopped a vehicle driven by Paul for an equipment violation.
“While talking with the operator the officer smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle,” police stated in a press release. “A search of the vehicle and occupants was then conducted. This search produced drug paraphernalia, suspected marijuana and 27 individual wax paper bags of suspected crack cocaine.”
Bradford police then requested assistance, and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit responded. With the K-9 search, law enforcement found marijuana and pills.
Court records indicate that Paul is charged with 27 counts of possession with the intent to deliver, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, one count each of possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use, driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked, and driving a vehicle without required financial responsibility.
Meanwhile, Freeney, who was Paul’s passenger, is charged with one count of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, 27 counts of possession of a controlled substance, and two counts each of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use, court records stated.
Preliminary hearings are scheduled for April 29.
