I would have never expected what happened to turn out the way it did.
Right now, I figured I would be at school with my friends continuing on with my senior year and then going to softball that night to ease my mind of any stress. But on April 9, Governor Wolf canceled all PIAA sports. I was in shock. It kept coming to my mind, ‘All this hard work I have put in for 12 years of my life has just been demolished right in front of me.’
I first texted my friends wondering if it was true, because before Wolf stated school and sports were canceled, it was just ‘it probably will be.’
Softball has been a big part of my life since I was 5 years old. I have been through endless different coaches and travel teams just to get my performance to its maximum peak. I was ready to take on my senior season with all the new players and with my softball friends that have been around forever. I was ready to have my team behind me as I pitched.
At the end of basketball season, I suffered an injury to my right shoulder. After many X-rays and MRIs, it came back to be an inferior labrum tear. We were unsure what we wanted to do because I didn’t want to get surgery. I was determined to play my senior year.
After two weeks of sitting at practice and watching, I was able to get slowly back in. I had two practices under my belt when everything was cut off.
It’s very sad to think that I won’t get to have a senior prom, Barker Day, softball season, and possibly even graduation. But I would like to thank so many people for how they’ve impacted my life.
First off, I would like to thank my parents for never letting me down. For pushing me to keep going through academics, and to every sport I’ve been through. Thank you for putting thousands of dollars into my softball career to make sure I had everything I needed.
Thank you to all the coaches that have been there with me. From my travel coaches to high school, and even my hitting and pitching coaches, there is never enough I could do to thank you for shaping me into the player I am today.
To all my teachers who have helped me pass all my classes: thank you for helping me with everything educational. To my daily rants, and to the thousands of questions I have to ask because I still don’t understand what’s going on. Thank you for that.
Stay healthy and safe.
