A Bradford man is in McKean County Jail without bail for an alleged disturbance at Bradford Regional Medical Center on Tuesday.
Michael J. Dowell, 46, of 56 Garlock Hollow, was arraigned before District Judge Dominic Cercone on one charge of disorderly conduct-engage in fighting, a third-degree misdemeanor. Dowell was incarcerated and denied bail due to being a “menace to society,” court records indicate.
According to the criminal complaint, at 3:21 p.m. Tuesday, Bradford City Police were dispatched to the BRMC emergency room for a disruptive patient. At the hospital, they found Dowell being “verbally aggressive toward the nurses” in a treatment room.
This was the second time police had encountered Dowell that day.
Court records state that Foster Township police went to Dowell’s home earlier that day for a disturbance. During the call, Dowell allegedly threatened to burn his house down and kill the officers on scene.
“This was a heated dispute and Dowell was eventually detained and taken to BRMC via ambulance with police escort for both medical evaluation and a mental health evaluation based on his behavior,” the complaint stated.
Dowell was in the ER most of the day, and it was while he was being discharged that the new disturbance started, according to court records. City police tried to calm Dowell down at the ER and he allegedly started telling officers to fight him, urging them over and over.
“Dowell even slid forward on the bed appearing to posture for a fight,” the complaint stated.
Police detained Dowell and took him to the Bradford City Police Station. He remained aggressive during this time, according to the complaint.
A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday.
