PART TWO: We told you about the visit of Mrs. George Thurn to Bradford for the cooking school sponsored by The Era.
Now we want to share how local advertisers took advantage of her visit to highlight their products.
Star Garage showed the Airflow Chrysler to be “selected by Mrs. George Thurn as her official car while in Bradford.”
The China Shop at 22 E. Corydon St. provided dinnerware and glassware for the model table setting at the cooking school, as selected by Mrs. Thurn. The beautiful flowers selected for the display came from Graham Florist at 9 Kennedy St., and Mrs. Thurn “will tell you many interesting details regarding the proper arrangement of flowers, color combinations, and how necessary this information is for the discriminating hostess.”
The City Creamery provided the pure pasteurized milk selected by Mrs. Thurn. “Milk is nature’s perfect food,” Mrs. Thurn said.
The home economist chose Westinghouse Electric Cookery for the Cooking School, and the range she used would be given away as a prize at the school’s end. Emery Hardware Co. would be providing the range selected by Mrs. Thurn.
Godfrey’s Carolyn Louise Candies were selected, too, as was Beech-Nut Coffee from Geo. F. Stewart at 13 Chestnut St., Butter-Krust Bread from Bradford’s Home Town Bakery, Premier Canned Goods from P.M. Mays on Congress Street, and the Kelvinator refrigerator from Clark & Humphrey at 35 Mechanic St.
Mrs. Thurn was quite busy in Bradford, lending her endorsement to a pair of Arch-Lock patented shoes for women from Ralph’s Boot Shop Inc. at 82 Main St., and to Rinso package soap, Rumford Baking Powder, RCA Victor’s New “Duo” 331 Instrument from Stranburg’s Inc. at 117 Main St.
Mrs. Thurn conducted her cooking school across the country for daily newspapers.
