Easter candy: Candy sales spike every year around Easter, as parents prepare for the Easter Bunny to deliver sweet delicacies to their children. As for favorites, 89% of buyers prefer chocolates, while 46% enjoy gum and 35% like mints. According to the National Retail Federation, even 33% of those who don’t celebrate Easter will still buy candy. As we previously discussed jelly beans, here are some statistics on some other Easter favorites:
Peeps: Some love them. Some hate them. Apparently a lot of people buy them.
In fact, the Just Born factory in Bethlehem produces a shocking 5.5 million peeps a day, enough to circle the earth twice. As for those who hate them, according to a survey of 1,000 Americans conducted by National Today, 16% of Americans dislike Peeps.
Cadbury Creme Eggs: Many people look forward to seeing the chosen Cadbury mascot each year (this year, the mascot is a two-legged dog named Lieutenant Dan). A whopping 1.5 million eggs roll of the line every year, which stacked on top of eachother would be higher than Mount Everest. When eating these delicacies, 53% of people bite off the top, lick out the cream and finish off with the chocolate, while 20% bite straight through and 6% use their finger to scoop out the cream.
Chocolate bunnies: Statistics show that 91 million of these beauties are sold in the U.S. for Easter. According to 89% of all Americans, chocolate bunnies should be eaten ears first, 6% said they should be eaten feet first and 5% enjoyed eating the tail first. In addition, adults prefer milk chocolate (65%) over dark chocolate (27%).
Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs: Many believe these confections are tastier than Reese’s original Peanut Butter Cups, due to the chocolate to peanut butter ratio. In 2019, a survey conducted by RetailMeNot showed 32% of Americans prefer Reese’s Peanut Butter eggs over other Easter candies.
Other candies frequently included in baskets are Rain-Blo Gum Eggs, Whopper Robin Eggs, and a pastel-colored spinoff of candy corn often labeled as “bunny corn.”
