St. Marys Mayor Lou Radkowski issued an update via social media Monday. The statement highlights the fact that Elk County remains free of confirmed cases of COVID-19 and encourages residents to keep practicing social distancing.
Radkowski wrote, “Elk County is one of eight counties in Pennsylvania that do not have a positive COVID-19 case. Twice a week, I discuss local issues with other leaders across the county and state to see what everyone may need or is doing. It’s been a great experience working alongside all of the people at Saint Marys Area, ECC, our police, fire, ambulance, and search/rescue as well as our county, state, and federal government offices.”
He thanked legislators including Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Pa., Sen. Joe Scarnati, R-Brockway, and Rep. Matt Gabler, R-DuBois, for their efforts in Washington and in Harrisburg.
He added recognition of the area’s citizens for their efforts to stay safe.
“It’s a testament to all of you that we still see 0 positive cases in Elk County. I know there is testing being done in town and we’ve been blessed that there has been nothing positive. Let’s keep it that way,” he said. “Thank you for your sacrifices and continued support staying at home.”
He shared personal notes from his own experience with staying home and his family’s efforts to combat restlessness:
“I do know it’s hard. My family does get loud in our small house, but we make the most of it. The family dinners and board game time does make up for the noise. If you see Elena Murray Radkowski, please thank her for being a great wife and mom. Be sure to keep your social distance.”
Finally, he encouraged residents to think of those who are in jobs considered essential and be respectful of their continued exposure in those positions.
“Continue to be understanding of our grocery store workers, mail carriers, delivery folks, and others that are part of our community and that keep us fed and clothed,” Radkowski said. “Respect their place of employment. It’s not a replacement for entertainment or a place to hang out. Limit your time and don’t bring the entire family. Let’s keep them healthy.
“Stay healthy, Saint Marys.”
