As far as anybody knows, dogs and cats are not susceptible to COVID-19, according to the Potter County Veterinary Clinic.
A vet tech of the clinic provided the information after hearing from several concerned clients.
The Department of Agriculture has ordered the SPCA to bathe any animals that come, not because they might be sick with the virus, but rather because dogs and cats can be carriers of the virus if they were around a sick person, the vet tech explained.
She said dogs do get vaccinated against a strain of coronavirus, but not the strain that causes COVID-19.
While there are no known cases of cats or dogs becoming sick with COVID-19, they should still be quarantined when their owners are quarantined, as they can be carriers. Exercising pets outside is fine as long as they are not exposed to other people and pets.
