McCourt Label will continue to operate in accordance with state mandate, the company announced.
While Gov. Tom Wolf ordered that all non-life-sustaining businesses in Pennsylvania close their physical locations, he clarified that essential services and sectors may remain open with use of social distancing practices. Essential services and sectors include, printers and paper product converters. McCourt Label falls under these categories.
McCourt produces critical patient ID labels for hospitals, cautionary labels for pharmaceuticals, ID labels for medical devices, test tube labels for labs and many other life-saving support related products. McCourt has many of these jobs running on presses right now.
McCourt also produces labels for the food industry including all the ingredients labels for bulk spice packaging at McCormick Spice. McCormick has designated McCourt as a critical food supply chain supplier and has ordered that they remain in production in accordance with the federal guidelines
The Food and Agriculture industry has been designated a “Critical Infrastructure Segment” under Presidential Policy Directive 21 and Department of Homeland Security emergency readiness programs implementing the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001. 42 U.S.C. § 5195c(e). It is therefore the policy of the United States government that these industries continue to function with minimal disruption in the event of an emergency.
Furthermore, in a March 16 guidance, the president of the United States instructed employees of critical infrastructure industries, including the food and agriculture sector, to continue to perform their normal job functions during the coronavirus pandemic.
The protection of McCourt employees during this time is the company’s first and foremost priority. McCourt has instituted social distancing and safety policies which were put into effect last week. On Friday, most office employees were set up to work from home and those that remain will be segregated to allow for maximum distancing. The company will be taking further measures to remain in compliance with CDC guidelines to keep employees safe.
