VILLAINS: Have you ever wondered which Disney villain is the most Googled in the state?
Well, whether you did or not, Vivint did the research to find out.
According to their study, Pennsylvania’s most searched villain was Hades from the movie Hercules. Only a few of the classic villains made it on the list, like Lady Tremaine, the wicked stepmother from Cinderella; Captain Hook from Peter Pan; Cruella de Ville from 101 Dalmations; the Evil Queen (Grimhilde) from Snow White; and Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty.
In case you were curious, New Yorkers searched for Ursula the Sea Witch from The Little Mermaid, while folks in Ohio, Maryland and Virginia — along with seven other states — searched Scar from The Lion King.
Also making the list were Shere Khan, the tiger from The Jungle Book, Shan Yu from Mulan, Jafar from Aladdin, Dr. Facilier from The Princess and the Frog, Tamatoa from Moana, Mother Gothel from Tangled, Michael Yagoobian from Meet the Robinsons, Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, and Hans from Frozen.
A lot of these villains were from contemporary films, and some of the older favorites didn’t make the list.
Si and Am, the Siamese cats from Lady and the Tramp were certainly villains in that film, as were Prince John in Robin Hood, Madam Mim from Sword in The Stone, the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, and Chernabog from Fantasia.
According to Vivint, “Frozen’s outlaw, Hans, has 12 brothers, making him the villain with the largest family of any Disney foe. Vermont googled Hans the most of any other villain, despite being one of the states with the smallest average family size.
“Tamatoa, the villainous crab in Moana, is Hawaii’s favorite villain. Not only is Tamatoa of Polynesian and Haitian descent, but the film itself is set in the Pacific.”
It seems the public’s penchant for villains is growing, as even Walt Disney World added a Villains After Hours special ticketed event for the summer.
