The McKean County Chapter of Delta Kapa Gamma will celebrate its Founder’s Day on May 12. As a county-wide group, chapter members will read a book and present a lesson to all eight of the county’s head start children. Books that are read will be presented to the Head Start Center for its classroom library.
Norma Koehler, Seneca Highlands IU9 learning support teacher in the Austin School District, presented a program based on the values of YMCA camping. As a volunteer counselor for a sixth grade school group that attended the camp outdoor education program, she has spent every summer for the past 40 summers at Camp Fitch YMCA.
This experience has been beneficial in her work with children both here in the United States and in her international work connections with children. She introduced her husband, Keith Koehler, to Camp Fitch 33 summers ago and now it is a family affair. Keith Koehler is the waterfront director and lifeguard trainer. The YMCA program at Camp Fitch YMCA is in North Springfield on Lake Erie. It is a 450-acre camp open year-round.
The next Delta Kappa Gamma meeting is April 29 in Kane.
