With at least four wildfires reported in McKean County since Sunday, Star Hose Co. #1 of Port Allegany shared this message for residents on its Facebook page: “Please do not burn outdoors!”
The department reminded residents “of the dangers of burning during these dry, windy conditions.”
Firefighters from numerous departments responded to several wildfire calls over the past two days.
About 5 p.m. on Sunday, Star Hose firefighters were dispatched to a wildfire near a home on Route 155. According to Star Hose, firefighters from Roulette, Austin, Smethport, Norwich Township, Eldred, Coudersport, and Emporium, as well as representatives from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources were brought in to assist.
“The fire grew to nearly 25 acres before crews were able to contain and extinguish the blaze,” the fire department reported. “Quick actions and decisive use of resources resulted in several buildings being saved.”
At 1:27 p.m. Monday, Kane volunteer firefighters were called to a woodland fire that was approaching a building on Old Smethport Road in Wetmore Township.
About 3:20 p.m., a wildfire was reported on Green Hollow Road in Annin Township.
Star Hose reported in early evening that the fire had grown to about 10 acres, and firefighters from Port Allegany, Eldred Borough, Eldred Township, Smethport and Roulette were on scene.
At 4:42 p.m., firefighters from Corydon Township, Bradford Township and Lewis Run were dispatched to the entrance to the Tracy Ridge Campground in Corydon Township to meet someone who could take them to the site of a wildfire. The wildfire was first reported to be well over an acre.
