A Franklinville, N.Y., woman was jailed Tuesday for allegations that she appeared in public under the influence of methamphetamine and stole keys from a police station.
Angela A. Showers, 18, was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Richard Luther on charges of criminal attempt-theft by unlawful taking, a third-degree felony; theft by unlawful taking, a first-degree misdemeanor; two counts of false identification to a law enforcement officer, third-degree misdemeanors; possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor; and summary public drunkenness.
According to the criminal complaint, at 9:18 a.m. Tuesday, a Bradford Township police officer responded to a report of a suspicious person. The person — Showers — identified herself as “April” Showers with a date of birth of Jan. 24, 2001.
Showers admitted to the officer that she used “ice,” and clarified that “ice” is crystal methamphetamine, court records stated. While she was allegedly under the influence of the drug, she wandered on public roads, placing herself in danger of being struck by a vehicle.
Police took her to the police station to make arrangements for somewhere safe she could go with someone responsible to look after her. At the station, police learned her name is actually Angela Showers and her birthday is Jan. 24, 2002, the complaint stated.
Also, court records allege that while Showers was at the police station, she stole two keys: one to an unmarked gray Dodge Charger patrol vehicle owned by the police department, and the other to the police station door.
Police transported her to the YWCA Bradford’s women’s shelter for her safety.
At 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, Bradford City police responded to a report of a suspicious person walking around the CVS Pharmacy parking lot. Police identified the person as Showers, and they found on her person the keys belonging to Bradford Township police, as well as a hypodermic needle, according to the complaint.
Showers is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, and she is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Thursday.
