AMITY, N.Y. — An Eldred, Pa., man was jailed without bail when he was arrested on a weapons charge and bench warrant in New York state last week.
On Friday, Amity-based New York state troopers pulled over Christopher A. Barber, 31, on Hunt Road in the town of New Hudson. During the traffic stop, troopers found Barber to be in possession of metal knuckles. Also, they found out that Barber was a fugitive from justice out of Pennsylvania, as there was an active warrant for him in McKean County.
A bench warrant was issued for Barber on Feb. 27 when he failed to appear for a sentencing hearing in McKean County Court for charges in two cases.
According to police, Barber is charged in New York state with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and he was arraigned in Friendship Town Court. He was committed to Allegany County Jail without bail.
Barber is to appear in New Hudson Town Court later this month before extradition on the warrant, police stated.
Regarding the Pennsylvania cases, Barber pleaded guilty Jan. 23 in McKean County Court to a charge of summary harassment in one case, and in the second case to charges of possession of a controlled substance, DUI-controlled substance and summary charges.
Barber entered the plea to allegations that on July 24, he drove under the influence of methamphetamine, and on March 24, he struck another man.
