Animal neglect charges against Smethport woman bound to court
Charges against a Smethport woman accused of neglecting several animals were bound to McKean County court at a preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge William Todd.
Terri D. Burdick, 52, is charged with four counts each of aggravated cruelty to animals-torture and aggravated cruelty to animals-serious bodily injury or death, third-degree felonies; and 28 counts each of cruelty to animals, second-degree misdemeanors, and neglect of animals-sustenance/water, neglect of animals-shelter/protection and neglect of animals-vet care, third-degree misdemeanors.
The criminal complaint states that on Dec. 30, Lewis Run-based state police executed a search warrant at Burdick’s Bordell Road property due to a report of animal cruelty allegations.
According to the complaint, troopers found there was no accessible food or water for any of the animals on the property, which included multiple dogs and cats inside the residence, along with other animals on the property. The troopers found a dead horse, two dead chickens and a dead cat, as well as multiple other animals in unclean and unsanitary conditions.
All of the animals seized from the property needed veterinarian care from medical issues caused by the living conditions, the complaint read.
Burdick is free on $20,000 unsecured bail.
Assault charges against Olean, N.Y., woman bound to court
An Olean, N.Y., woman accused of assault had all charges against her bound to McKean County Court at a preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge William Todd.
Morgan E. Hart, 21, is charged with aggravated assault-attempts to cause serious bodily injury with extreme indifference to the value of human life, a first-degree felony; strangulation, a second-degree felony; two counts of simple assault and one count of recklessly endangering another person, second-degree misdemeanors; and summary harassment.
The criminal complaint stated that Hart became upset with a man at a Norwich Township home.
According to the complaint, she hit him multiple times with an open and closed fist, then choked him with both hands so he could not breath, court records stated. She also allegedly kneed him in the groin, threatened him with a knife and bit his ear.
Hart is free, having posted $25,000 bail.
