COUDERSPORT — An Austin woman is facing allegations that she tried to steal a vehicle from the emergency room parking lot at UPMC Cole in Coudersport.
According to Coudersport-based state police, at 1:39 p.m. Feb. 25, Veronica Owens, 35, of Austin, tried to steal a vehicle from the parking lot, and she also tried to steal ambulance keys from an EMS responder who was there for an unrelated incident.
Troopers located Owens in the ER lobby and took her into custody without incident, police said.
She is charged in the case with criminal attempt-theft by unlawful taking, a third-degree felony; and summary charges of criminal attempt-harassment, criminal mischief and public drunkenness.
Owens was arraigned Feb. 25 for both the above case and for an unrelated case from allegations on the previous day — Feb. 24 — in Portage Township.
In the case from the day prior, she is charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, third-degree felonies; theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, second-degree misdemeanors; and summary charges of driving without a license and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.
Bail was set at $20,000 for each case, and she was committed to Potter County Jail. She has preliminary hearings set for Friday in both cases.
