ST. MARYS — The Penn-Elk Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met for its February meeting at the home of Phyllis Cook, St. Marys.
The program, given by Virginia Thorwart, Penn-Elk Chapter, DAR Registrar, was a review of President Abraham Lincoln’s life. She also included an account of the first woman who was hung as a conspirator in Lincoln’s assasination, Mary Surratt, who ran the boarding house where John Wilkes Booth visited. Also offered was a story of Lincoln’s lifelong admiration for famous Scottish poet Robert Burns.
Chapter Regent Mary Ellen Badeau welcomed a new prospective member and new member to the dinner meeting.
