PORT ALLEGANY — This is a leap year and the S.W. Smith Memorial Public Library in Port Allegany decided the quadrennial date deserves a celebration.
On Leap Day, Feb. 29, the S.W. Smith Memorial Public Library will host a “Leap into Happy Hour” building fund fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. at the library. The cost is $20 per ticket for adults 21 and over.
Vendors present will include Bear Creek Wines of Kane, Card Creek Wines of Roulette, Triple Nickel Distillery of Weedville and Elk County Wilds of Johnsonburg. Participants can expect wine, whiskey and ’shine smoothie tastings, wine and beer options, non-alcoholic punch and beverages, an array of appetizers, a bucket auction, door prizes and live music.
Tickets are currently on sale at the library until they sell out.
The library’s building fund supports the mortgage payments on the library building. Currently, the only annual fundraiser the library has for the building fund is the Library Building Fun(d) 5K Run/Walk in the spring, to be held April 18. While The Building Fun(d) 5K Run/Walk fundraiser increases in participation and income each year, in 2020 the library is planning additional small fundraisers to plump up the S.W. Smith Memorial Public Library Building Fund.
The annual Library Dinner Auction held in the fall — set this year for Oct. 3 — benefits the library’s operating fund.
The library depends on individuals and organizations who care about its mission and recognize that a strong library is an important asset of the community.
